    Ericson 27' $30,000

Hi Jeff! funny thing - they ad now says "price reduced" but the list is still 30k. Maybe there aren't a lot of boats down that way, but I'd have figured you could score a nice 36' ~ 46' boat for cheap after someone gave up on returning to it. cheers, isaac / ike

    Ericson 29 v.s. Ericson 27

Berkeley's minimum for liveaboard is either 25 or 26 feet IIRC. I would suggest getting the boat you want and become active sailing it first while living in an apartment or renting a room. Establish yourself at the marina and then after the first month, go ask about liveaboard and get yourself...

    Balance in strong breeze

find a new slip Here in windy Berkeley the custom is to sail into your upwind slip. Fleets of Merit 25s, Ranger 23s, J22, and Santanas of various sizes take great pride on forgetting about their auxilliary for the most part. Unfortunately, our 27's are too slow on the helm in tight quarters...

    Time to haul out.

Jeff, per the FB thread, I finally found my invoice for my bottom job but, sadly, the yard didn't say how many gallons I was charged for. Good luck researching other DIY yards in SoCal. cheers, Ike s/v Skol Berkeley, CA

E27 Chain plate move and standing rigging replacement: who has done this?

Doug, many thanks for digging up your numbers. Given the O.E. spec of the original rig that sounds right on the money. For anyone curious about synthetics vs. SS wire: I've been pricing out my rigging as a strictly DIY project using the online published prices from Colligo Marine and...

E27 Chain plate move and standing rigging replacement: who has done this?

Congrats on keeping the boat! I really like how your external plates turned out but I've been wondering how it's affected your sheeting angles when flying genoas? Any trouble with chafe on the sails or the sheets? Great looking boat. I wish Skol were half as clean. cheers, Ike

E27 Chain plate move and standing rigging replacement: who has done this?

A timely thread! I've done a fair bit of searching on the forum here for specs on the 27's standing rigging and have come up short. What diameter wire have folks used in replacing the standing rigging, and what came stock? In the rigging diagram in the PDF based manual it specs the forestay...

Outboard motor on an E27 as backup

but ... but .... entering the slough wing on wing or with the spinnaker up is the victory march home! :egrin: I've sailed into Berkeley as often as I've motored. Honestly I really wish I could justify removing the engine entirely. I just try to pretend the fool thing isn't even there...

    Backup GPS recommendations

I think any of the eTrex series makes for a great backup GPS. I used an eTrex legend for back country use for over 10 years and it was a very reliable unit. You'll also be able to get SOG and a heading out of it, and an ability to set waypoints at regular intervals to check that your compass...

    I'm looking for Scorpion owners

Too cool! We are actually looking to move back up to the Seattle area sometime next year. SF Bay gets a lot of attention but the family all misses Puget Sound. B.I. is currently at the top of the list. I'm assuming your old Sabre lives in Eagle Harbor somewhere. Look forward to seeing...

    E27 Outboard Version

small detail to add. The closed transom of the inboard E-27 is mostly a hollow space, and doesn't provide much in the way of extra hull rigidity compared to the open transom. Conceivably if you ship a large wave into the cockpit, it's going to drain quite a bit faster. I've thought about...

    I'm looking for Scorpion owners

good article - possible resource I'm not a Scorpion owner, but wanted to let you know about a good article in Good Old Boat that reviews the Scorpion and her sister, the Columbia Sabre. Both of these boats were based on the Olympic 5.5 meter hulls. It's interesting to note that Bruce...

Adventures and blog of S/V Altair

Hi all - ran across this blog today and thought I'd share it. I do not know the author/sailor, but he seems to have had a good voyage to Mexico and is presently en route to Hawaii on his '71 Ericson 27, Altair. Does anyone here know Christian? http://cdlloyd.blogspot.com/ Skol! -Ike

    Where is the bilge pump?

Scyph - my boat has many of the issues you're wrestling with at present so I felt compelled to reply to your post. From the photographs you've provided it appears to me that the prior owner has completely disconnected the bilge pump hoses. On My E-27, the electric bilge pump uses that smaller...

    old boat, crazy ideas

Windjunkee, that sounds like a really nice setup. Really appreciate everyone's input. it's pretty clear to me that, right now, the biggest upgrades bang for buck to be had for some length of time are all to be made to the skipper :egrin: Thanks to many of Seth's and other's excellent...
