    Meat Storage

Back to Gareth's original question, we recently installed a Waeco freezer in our boat. It's fabulous, keeps meat solidly frozen, and there's even enough room for ice cream and it cools beer in just a couple minutes. We installed it in one of the V berth compartments.

    Sticky Power Cord

I also use fender cleaner. I can't recall the brand. It's not one of the regular brands. I bought it at Viking (Annapolis) before they closed. I also swear by 3M's scrubbers. They come in flat 6x8? sheets. They're coarse. I cut them into smaller pads and use them for everything from cleaning my...

    engine bilge

Our first boat, a Pearson 27, had the engine bilge fully connected to the rest of the boat's bilge. It wasn't a big issue until a/ the sound/heat proofing material started to disintegrate and flake off, and b/ it had developed an oil leak. Both of those issues made the bilge incredibly gross...

    Unwanted Visitor on Sailboat

http://apnews.myway.com/article/20080806/D92CJ4B00.html I hope you are all enjoying your sailing season. Neal (Capt Nero) and I have been busy and haven't posted for a while, but I was on the web today and saw this article. *I* have trouble climbing the swim ladder. I'm impressed with this...

    Chesapeake Fall - Boat Show?!?

It's been a while since I've been on this site, but it's nice to see that folks are keeping up with Ericson rendezvous. Sorry we missed the summer get together. Neal and I just came back from a trip south to Cape Charles aboard Kokomo. Had a few issues which I'll discuss in a different forum...

    2007 Chesapeake Bay Ericson Rendezvous

It's nice just being able to write about rendezvous on the Bay again. Seems like this cold weather is hanging on forever and I hate cold weather.:baby: We'll put Shaw Bay on the calendar.

    Marina requires $500,000 liability insurance?

Our marina raises slip fees every year, whether we need it or not ;) and also requires that we have insurance for our boat. I am not sure what the details are (that's the captain's job), but I'm pretty sure they have minimums as well. We're located in Herring Bay. Our marina is one of the...

Annapolis Area: Maryland: Kokomo Crew is planning a get together

Just a reminder that we are hosting a gathering of sailing friends tomorrow night (February 17, 2007) at our home in Tracys Landing if anyone in the area is interested. Some Ericson owners will be there, but there will be other boat owners with their own stories to tell as well. Call...

    Oil lanterns

We have and use Weems and Plath. I like it because I feel it's relatively safe on the boat. It's not the largest model. The smaller one (maybe 8 or 9 inches high?) does fine for those summer nights when Neal and I want to eat by candle light or do simple chores. It isn't bright enough for...

Kokomo Crew is planning a get together

If you're anywhere near the Annapolis area, Capt Nero (Neal) and I are planning a party for our boating friends. We're thinking sometime in February. Before we set a specific date we were wondering how many people might be interested to come to our place for an evening of sharing tall tales...

Speaking of Groundings, or the most stupid thing I did this past Summer!

Here on the Chesapeake, a good grounding story is told with a certain amount of pride.... and nearly EVERYONE (with a sailboat) runs aground. The Chesapeake is pretty shallow except for the shipping channel. Ain't no barnacles on the bottom of our keels. We've even run aground IN the...

    Stripping a boat.

Put it on eBay. It's amazing to see all the "junque" you can buy there. (Not implying your boat is junk, mind you!) You can put a really low dollar value on it and see what you get. Could be there's a wannabe sailor out there that can't afford to buy a boat all set up, but is willing to work...

    After the storm yesterday

As the sky began to clear after the crappy day we had on Thursday, I caught a few shots of the sky apologizing for all the rain and gray from earlier in the day.

Baja Ha Ha Photo of the day.

Been there, done that.... twice. Once in the BVI at Savannah Bay, Virgin Gorda. The outboard remained running because we couldn't find the auto cut-off lanyard and jury rigged the on off button to stay on till we wanted it off. Mistake. Fortunately, one of our crew was nearby to grab one of...

    Ernesto and the Annapolis surge

I'm happy to report that we had no damage at Herrington Harbor North. The new jetty they built this summer is probably the most likely reason there was little damage. We were able to salvage the Labor Day weekend sailing excursion and enjoyed a very nice weekend. We left Saturday evening for...
