    Ericson 34r-- seeking build info.

Some interesting updates: First, some empirical data. The E34r/x or whatever it is that I've got(says x on the serial number) is waaay lighter than otherwise stated. Without the inboard engine(which I'm not going to replace) didn't even break 8000lbs on the crane. Whether that's because it's a...

    Ericson/Olson 34 seeking new rudder

That's pretty similar to what I'll be doing to my E34r rudder. It's not really that complicated of engineering if one knows some basic trig and and calculate the loads. In the case of my 34r, the shaft is 2.75 inches which is meaty for sure and loads aren't much of an issue. I find most rudders...

    Looking at a 35 year old E38...I'm I crazy?

The major issue, having rebuilt/built 4 sailboats now-- is can you afford a boat at all? If you can, refurbishing the E38 will cost a quarter of what a new boat would-- so it's certainly a deal. Where the crazy comes in is getting into a project one can't see through, as an unfinished boat is...

    Harken Roller furler/reefer.

The E 34r that I just bought has one of these units, and I'm quite inclined to sell it. http://www.harken.com/productcategory.aspx?taxid=3541. It's basically brand new but I'm not much of a fan of roller headsails. It's going to be coming off, I need to verify the model, but I'd be happy to sell...

    Ericson 34r-- seeking build info.

Hull 19. It's pretty straight, but old, and just needs a refit. The price is right, and obviously was well built in the day, and should make a fine high performance minimalist cruiser which is precisely what I'm after.

    Ericson 34r-- seeking build info.

Cool, thanks! I took the plunge and bought the boat, as the price was right, and will spend the winter doing a re-fit. Should be pretty sporty when all cleaned up.

Cool, I thought so. Any other details would be appreciated if they exist in the literature you have access to. Thanks!

    Ericson 34r-- seeking build info.

It definitely appears cored, with a pronounced step in the inner laminate just below the sheer. The question is really 1) what is it and 2) how far down does it go. The boat has little usage, but some minor grounding damage and I'd like to know what I'm getting into. It all repairable, even in...

    Ericson 34r-- seeking build info.

Hi all, new around here. I'm looking to take on a restoration project of a Erickson 34r, which is a rare boat it seems, but much what I'm looking for(a high performance, minimalist cruiser with a lot of light air weather ability)-- and it seems pretty ideal. It's a bit beat, but repairable, and...
