Replacing Instruments - Plastic or Wood covers?

Updating Instruments We replaced our old telcor wind instruments(Non-op for years) with a new Garmin 545 Gps plotter, sounder. We used a teak backing plate to deal with the old holes in the bulkhead and reposition the instruments. The signet Depth and knot-log still work fine.(so we kept them in...

    E-32 leaking Rudder Post

Thanks, As soon as I have time I will check into these different issues. I will keep you posted on what we find. Weather not helping. At least my rudder isn't stuck on the beach like the Irving Johnson. Flew over her today..they tried to pull her off but the tow lines snapped. Real shame...

    E-32 leaking Rudder Post

Thanks Ted... It seems to leak from below the stuffing box mostly. A little from on top of the stuffing box also. Under way with rudder movement is where the water leak becomes visable. I don't think it's the tube. Reading Jorge's thread makes me wonder though. Any thoughts ?

    E-32 leaking Rudder Post

Ok...I've read some of the other threads on this problem. Just hauled the old girl and among other things tried to address the rudder post leak. I repacked the stuffing box, checked the play, which was minimal, dropped the rudder, and greased everything. The thing still leaks. Is it the bronze cap...

    Tillermaster Remote Control

Wanted...The remote control cord for a tillermaster autohelm that just keeps going. Never had it but figure it would be an added bonus. I've checked Minney's no luck. I thought I would give it a try here. :egrin:

E-32 Rudder stuffing box leak (71')

Thanks Jorge, I need to look a little closer now with your description of the stuffing box. Is the epoxied cap part of the bushing or protecting it ? Where would I get a new bushing ? (fabricate one perhaps). I do believe I will take your advise on blessing it, but will have to substitute...

Thanks for the Reply: We have covers now also. Just finished painting the insides off these this week. At least now there waterproof. Before the wood would just get saturated. I also toyed with running a drainage line to the bilge, Easy on the starboard side... bit of a problem on the port. Also...

E-32 Rudder stuffing box leak (71')

Our rudder stuffing box is leaking. Looking at a previous thread the problem is addressed for a 35-2. Is the 32's the same ? Can any 32 owners offer any advice. The stuffing box has the 4 bolts as described in the specs, but ours looks a little different than the drawing. Would like to also...

Water Drainage from Teak cockpit side-board storage area

I am in the process of updating our old girl. Repaintiing the insides of these little storage areas of the teak combings on the port and starboard sides of the cockpit is on the list. Did these ever have a way of draining water ?I've had to sponge it out after washing her down. Anyone out there...
