    Yanmar YSM12 Diesel Engine, $1750

Was it professionally rebuilt and what was done? Does it start easily in the winter? I have an E30-2 with a YSM 12 that has seized and I would like to replace the engine with a good running YSM 12.

    Ericson 30-2 Owners

Trying to fit a Universal 3-20B engine into my E30-2 I own hull #27, a 1978 model, and am trying to figure out if a Universal M3-20B will fit into it. Has anyone ever replaced a YSM12 in an Ericson 30-2 with a Kubota blocked engine? The original YSM12 has a horizontally running piston and...

    Fuel tank replacement

Take a look at pulling it port lazarette Because my E30-2 is 34 years old and I am unsure of the condition of my fuel tank. Even though I am 6'-4" tall and 220 lbs, I have successfully gone completely below through the port lazarette hatchway, after removing some plywood side panels, to find a...

Loose footed mains & Single line reefing on a 35-3

I think that the discussion of boom bending has focused exclusively on the effect of the bending on the foot of the main. When the boom bends, the leech of the main would also be eased out by the bending, which would have a flattening effect on the main, somewhat like tightening an adjustable...

    Refinishing Companionway Hatch

Thanks Randy. I'll try that - I didn't think of using a brass brush. I use one on my cat without any complaints, so it shouldn't bother the "caulk" either. The "caulking" feels like rubber - it's flexible and resilient.

    Refinishing Companionway Hatch

The companionway hatch on my E30-2 has what looks like a 3/4" plywood top surface with some type of pliable strip "caulking" between teak strips (veneer probably) on top - kind of like teak and holly plywood. It's not really caulking - It doesn't go all the way through to underside of the...

    Fuel Gauge

This won't help you, but I found the old fuel gauge for my 1978 E30-2 in my bilge last week while troubleshooting a fuel tank leak. I was not aware that my boat ever had a gauge. I also found several sections of old brittle thin hose similar to what you describe. My leak occurs only when I...

    1978 E30 w/ transom mounted rudder

There were only 47 of these made. I have no idea why, but it was superceded by the E30+, which has a fractional rig, deck stepped mast, and a structural grid under to sole liner. I raced a fractional rig Lightning for 20 yrs and kind of miss the easy control of mainsail shape and power that...
