    911 mast center of gravity?

I don't know? I have this nice picture and can likely make a guesstimate.

    Rust stain, or worse?

I was told that stainless steel will rust where is can't drain or breath properly. Failed bedding is the likely cause here. Replacing the fasteners might be a good idea if they are rusted badly. I have several stanchions to bed this season.

Hove to Speed and Direction [and Reef Considerations]

Heaving to with a larger head sail is a challenge! I am so use to doing it with the #3 (90%) trimmed in tight. Both the Olson and prior E27 heaved to nicely. The Olson wants to sail out of it if you don't kill off the speed. I recall it working only if I put the helm hard over under 1.0 knot or so.

Sailing (especially singlehanded) in significant waves

Ray, a few years ago I had the pleasure of single handing a Cal 40 for an afternoon. Tacking it was amazing. The boat tracked so well through the turn. Made tacking my Olson fell like a strange series of steps.

Adding cam cleat to cabin top

Yes! You might want to use the second position for another light running control. Looking back at your photo, what about to the far right of left where you have a straight flat surface on the bevel? Maybe? Might just squeeze under the dodger too.

Adding cam cleat to cabin top

Jim, I might think it may be difficult to release with it located up so far forward. Those cleats work best close to an edge. I had a routing issue with my reef lines that I solved with a low friction deck organizer. Vang, cunningham, outhaul. Not much line movement. Nothing worse than drilling...

    E27 Maximum Weight Capacity?

As I recall the Peterson 34 had a chain passage from the bow to a cockpit lazerette so you could store the weight of the chain low and closer to the stern.

    40 years of monohull "evolution"

I have had a long term (2nd generation) and extremely loyal Catalina owner sail my Olson 911. His eyes lit-up the first time he went to whether. "Not in the same league! This boat rocks!". We rafted up later that summer and spent half the day comparing the differences with his Catalina 30. We...

Olson 34 tall rig sails- 130 or 135?

I bought this sail to replace my dacron #2. The furler and wrap preventer limit my boat to a luff shorter. I was able to sail it once by securing the tack to the base of the forestay. It has a great shape and is really good condition. The boat it came off lost it's mast and the owner scraped it...

Olson 34 tall rig sails- 130 or 135?

The sail is a laminate. Not mylar. What was I thinking???

Olson 34 tall rig sails- 130 or 135?

Jeff, I recently picked up a Mylar #2, used but in great shape that is about 12"-15" too tall to fit my 911 standard rig with furler. I will measure it tonight.

Be sure to use winch handle holders with these. The handles don't fit in the standard holders very well.

Sea trial for 1990 Ericson 34-2 next week

Looks like a nice boat. I might try to open some of those zippers in the headliner just to see it they are stuck. I periodically lubricate them to keep them unstuck. Not a deal breaker if they don't open. Just might tell you how well the boat was cared for? I have that same tank level indicator...
